Great for those of us who teach with a mask

I bought this to use in my hybrid classroom where half my students are in person and half are in are online. via ZOOM. Due to current times those of us in the classroom are required to wear face masks and there are also plexiglass barriers in place for students and staff. This makes the use of microphones in the classroom absolutely essential for students on ZOOM. But it's also very useful in class, because wearing a mask makes it harder to project your voice in class. This device is easy to connect to the transmitter that we already have in our classrooms. This gives me protection from my own headset, which seems important when virus transmission is a major problem. But it is also very important because each device must be connected to the class sound system and the channels must be carefully selected to avoid interference both within and between classes. Trying to bring your own transmitter would be highly impractical, so an easy-to-connect headset is a great compromise. Durable construction is also very important when wearing a mask. From colleagues who use the ultra-thin models, which are also very popular, I have noticed that their light nature creates a rubbing noise on the mask, which can cause a very annoying noise. On the other hand, this model can be mounted directly on the mask and stays there, especially thanks to the larger foam cover. This creates a very stable sound and no friction noise. Of course, this costs the heavier device, but I don't see that as a problem.

Pros
  • Permanently charged electret condenser cartridge provides detailed, clear vocals
Cons
  • Vendor communication
