I work in wildlife rearing and I usually repair wire fences by winding little loops of wire every few inches which means hundreds of wires have to be cut and twisted into each cage. It takes forever and you end up with very sore fingertips. They only take a few seconds each and are easier to pull really tight. And they "chew proof"! Of course, I have to be careful not to leave any sharp ends that animals can get hold of. But they are much simpler and more reliable than the wire I used. I found I had trouble getting the end through the clasp on about 1 in 10. But in the end they all swallowed a bit of patience.
