Whatever your size, choose one size up if the next size is available. I ordered using the sizing info and they fit as expected before washing too. After washing and drying all 3 shorts I bought shrunk 1 size. They are still wearable but definitely NOT expected/desired and necessary for full fitness. Full athletic attire is required for a hip replacement patient. If you decide to buy your size, ignore the care instructions. If you keep your water hot enough to make hot chocolate with tap water like I did, you need to wash your face with cold water. It is ABSOLUTELY NOT FORBIDDEN (in capital letters for emphasis) to tumble dry them. If you're using a dryer, remove them while they're still slightly damp and let them air dry. (Just a note: Usually the heat of the dryer will shrink most - NOT ALL - but most fabrics.) That being said, the plus size prices are very reasonable. The shorts I received appear to be well tailored - no creases at the seams; no loose threads, loose stitches or partial seams; the absence of "stripes", puffs on the fabric or uneven texture of the fabric; the colors are as expected and do not run - I washed the shorts with light-colored t-shirts; Good quality gum - sorry I don't know the brand to buy it. And the fabric still has a soft feel.
