I'm so glad I spent the extra money on this. I used it for the first time today and it has allowed me to whip up a great lather quickly. The mug looks very sophisticated and I find ivory to be the most elegant. It does not show dried cream like black. I thought the square shape at the bottom of the mug wasn't ideal, but it turned out to give me a good grip when holding it from underneath (when not using the handle). The three ribs inside serve two purposes: 1. to whip up the lather, or 2. if you're using a hard shaving soap, they prevent residual water from being on the bottom, allowing the soap to dry out after use. I highly recommend this mug! UPDATE: I have Col. Conk shaving soap (washer), and it fits very nicely in the bottom of this cup, leaving very little room. UPDATE 2: You can add a full puck of soap and heat to melt the soap in the mug. This allows the soap to dry completely after each use, preventing water from seeping under the washing machine.
