Watts Premier 101013 is an excellent quality filter that is suitable for both hot and cold water. It is fully certified by NSF as the highest quality filter media. it usually costs around $20. This is the 1 micron filter mentioned in the title of this product page and described in the *first paragraph* of the description. Problem? Simple: This is NOT what most sellers sell here! The product that most sellers are selling is an inexpensive import model called MAX VOC 957. It is NOT NSF certified for high quality filter media. This is a 0.5 micron filter that claims VOC removal but as there is no certification OR testing it is anyone's guess as to whether this is true. This is described in the second section of the product description/details. It's also distributed by Watts, but definitely not under the Watts Premier label. This is an inexpensive filter, costing around $10. A few years ago I tried the Watts Premier 101013 and it was excellent. The TDS meter showed less than 50 for more than a month of frequent use on hot and cold water lines. zero complaints. I tried the saver MAX VOC last month because I got two of them when I ordered on this product page. (I wasn't thrilled but decided to try them - no wonder the price was so good, right?) They are also rated for water temperatures well above my hot water temperature (150Β°), but unfortunately the filter is connected to the hot tap water only showed low TDS for two weeks, then jumped to over 200 TDS (presumably as the coconut carbon material started to break down). When I opened up the filter housing to replace it, I also saw that the top rubber seal (I always assume it's high-temp food grade nitrile!). This is scary as poor quality gaskets can be a sign of poor quality on all filter components and the nature of the filter is such that your water will seep into the filter housing until you turn on the faucet. You don't even want to think about what goes into the toothbrush water if the filter materials are not food-safe or the temperatures do not meet the specifications of the filter. But of course hoping it was just a bad batch of gasketsπ€π€π€The chilled water system on the other hand worked well with a full month of readings of 60 TDS. I should add that neither division experienced more than a slight hindrance to the flow. As for the VOC statements, if circumstances depended, I would hold my breath. Pun.
