I got tired of using plastic combs and wanted to switch to something nicer, more durable that could be easily disposed of at the end of its useful life. This comb meets all these requirements and more! I was considering buying one of those expensive metal combs that cost about $30, but figured I'd try something less expensive first. And I'm glad I did because I really like this comb! It's beautiful, durable, combs through my long hair without yanking it out as hard as plastic combs, and gives me a scalp massage to boot! I wasn't expecting that, but it feels very good on the scalp. I bought a wide tooth comb and it works well with my long, somewhat thick hair, but if your hair is short and/or fine I suppose a fine tooth comb will work better as those teeth are quite wide . I use it every day and I think it will last a long time given the sturdy construction and how easy it is to comb my hair. But if it breaks or I lose it, I would buy a new one immediately, I like it so much!
