I've tried some of the other models sold here at Revain with mixed success. The TV does not have a headphone or preamp output [Line Out] to power my wireless headphones. And my main reason for the adapter is so I can quietly listen to morning on-air news programs etc through headphones when the rest of the house is asleep. I found out the hard way that my TV's optical output ONLY outputs Dolby Digital, so whatever I used had to handle that type of signal. Some clones [i.e. those using unlicensed schemes copying real Dolby schemes] have problems, If there is a problem with the transmitter's signals, the audio output from other devices will drop out. until a full reboot is performed. Now go to the Gefen block. This product uses a licensed version of the Dolby Digital decoder. The difference is both cost (hey, the manufacturer has to pay license fees!) and stability. Once the device is fully powered on, over-the-air signal dropouts can cause the audio to drop out for a second, but then the audio returns. Background: I have a number of devices that are indirectly controlled by the TV, e.g. B. a power panel that detects when the TV has been switched on - the power panel then supplies power to specific sockets on the power panel, and one of the controlled outlets provides power to the Gefen PSU. Note, The note mentioned in the title of the test report refers to the stability of the power supplies used. to the supply voltage. From tests validated by oscilloscopes and meters, it appears that all major devices (including the one that comes with Gefen) can take up to 3 seconds to reach a stable DC output. Symptom: Turn on the TV and there is no sound until DC power is applied to the device. turns off for a few seconds. After turning on and off the DC power, the device works very stably. Initially I thought that the TV's fiber optic output was taking too long to connect to the network and/or install. I've made a little design device that basically sets up a time delay for the 120V supply to the power supply. no joy the same result. After some thought [plus the previously mentioned measurements] and using another Power Cube to experiment, I used the time delay trick to control the DC output FROM THE Brick [i.e. wait 5 seconds before the block gets DC power] instead to delay the 120V supply on the power supply/cube that supplies it. In other words, let the PSU warm up and then turn on the Gefen unit. problems fixed. In hindsight, I think problems with off-the-shelf power supplies could be a major factor in some of the Gefen's premature failures and possibly some signals. problems that other users had. My guess is that the Gefen units COULD get damaged trying to start work too early. I believe that the Gefen design needs to be changed/upgraded to fit the time delay circuitry into the incoming power chain, i.e. slow down the incoming DC. Power up the adapter's audio circuits until they are stable. The adapter can get bigger, but I suspect there will be less product loss/returns due to premature failures and the savings will offset the cost of the upgrade. My variant/correction (a self-made circuit with a time delay) is not available to most consumers. THEN power the Gefen unit. problems fixed.
