There are only two buttons on the side that you need if you want to use the mesh case (in other words if you have a device that monitors heart rate and you want it to happen on your ankle) and your ankle is not very thick, you have a tab hanging from your ankle. Hmm, imagine wearing a belt or watch with no loops to keep the strap snug against your body. They would just leave an extra length of strap sticking out, which would look weird. These are ankle straps. Otherwise they are soft and look sporty. But I never use them because I don't want the flap sticking out of my ankle and I don't have to do anything.
