A little more than expected. My pants are 40"-38" so I bought a 40" belt. I have to wear a belt on the last hole and even then it's too loose for me. I would suggest buying for your pant size rather than the traditional size larger. There's also some sort of clear coating that seems to be chipping off the bottom of the buckle, but it's not noticeable when I'm wearing it
