Review on 363 Frogger Micro Arcade by Chad Jeffries

Great pastime with hidden sleep mode

Tetris Micro Arcade is a very handy game to kill time. Portability can't be beat, and a round or two of Tetris will always help pass the time. I use the term "time killer" as it's not the ideal way to experience Tetris and the input could be better. I have the original Arduboy (with nice and soft soft buttons) and the clicking buttons on Micro Arcades frustrate me and annoy others. One of my favorite parts of Tetris is the music, so it only plays one cycle before changing. with sound effects is a disappointment, so I now play with the sound turned off as the keys make enough noise as it is. Like others, I found it a bummer running out of memory to hold high scores, but found a workaround. The system has a hidden sleep mode and the standby battery life is amazing. Received the device the first week of December, only charged once and it's still working and has my high scores. I am waiting to see if there is a low battery notification. Build quality is excellent for a sub-$20 device, but the plastic scratches too easily for my liking. A few scratches won't stop it from working, but unfortunately it can't be tossed in any bag with anything hard, somewhat limiting its portability. It's about the size of a credit card, but maybe six inches thick. Micro Arcade is a simple recommendation, but set your expectations accordingly and don't expect the best version of your chosen game. I like it enough that Galaga will be bought as soon as it goes on sale.

Pros
  • Ideal for a small house
Cons
  • Some little things
