Review on Aqua Pure Whole House Filtration System by Evan Hernandez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

If you want, buy. It works and is very well made. Detailed review below.

Easy to install and very well built. Excellent results. I'm a senior engineer at a cosmetics manufacturer and I'm very familiar with many different types of water filtration. This overview is based on many years of experience with this technology on an industrial scale. I settled on this filter after a few days of research and decided that it is the best whole house filter for the money and is made by a reputable 3M company that I trust with all the products they put on the bring market. BENEFITS - The filter housing is durable, made of high quality, thick gauge stainless steel and polished on the inside where the water flows. Polishing removes holes in stainless steel where dirt, and therefore bacteria, can collect and affect water quality. The attachment is strong, holds the whole block well. When you install the filter cartridge it will snap into place as in the video ensuring you have assembled everything correctly. The water in my New Jersey home had different smells and tastes: musty, rusty, dirty sediment, and red in the pre-filter I had installed. This filter has taken care of all these problems. The water quality after the filter is excellent. Before installing the 3M filter I used a Brita filter jug for drinking water but it still tasted bad. After installing the filter I can drink straight from the tap and it tastes better than before from the pot. Now I have water of this quality throughout the house. The shower is much nicer as I don't feel like I'm bathing in smelly water. Linen smells better too. Disadvantages - a short list. The filter housing bracket doesn't come with mounting screws, which is disappointing, but I'm fine with that because I wouldn't use the screws that came with it anyway. The filter also lacks instructions for mounting the bracket; It's easy as you only need 2 screws, but I still think it was a 3M mistake. There are no other problems. **Tips**. Install a 5 micron sediment filter in front of this filter. I used the Watts block pasted below because it's clear so you can see the filter to tell when it needs changing, it has stainless threads at the junction instead of more durable plastic, and a built in bypass valve for easy cartridge change. Use any 5 micron 10 inch cartridge. I used the Culligan P5-D as they seem to be the best for the price. - Mount the filter(s) on an easily accessible wall. Attach a 3/4" or 1" thick piece of pine to the wall and then attach the filters to that piece of pine. Make sure your screws are long enough that 1" screws penetrate the material you're attaching it to. That means if you're using 3/4" plywood attached to concrete, you'll need 1 3/4 -"Concrete Screws use concrete by an inch. I painted the entire log wall in my basement with waterproof masonry paint and then painted the wood with exterior latex paint. Also waterproof. Use a spirit level to make sure everything is even and nice male NPT fittings to connect the filter to the water line I used PEX so I bought 1"NPT to 3/4" PEX compression fittings and they are about $8 each Use good quality teflon tape to wrap the threads before installing and wrap 4-6 times I haven't had any leaks because I used good teflon tape and lots of it If you use thin cheap stuff it can leak as others have pointed out. Add pressure gauges before and after each filter. If you need 2 filters per filter you need 3 filters, if you need 2 filters. You can decide when to change the cartridge, but a good rule of thumb is that when the pressure after the filter is less than 90% of the pressure before the filter, it's time to change it. That means if you have 50psi of pressure before the filter, replace it if the pressure after the filter is less than 45psi. Your budget and personal preference for flow rate should be the determining factor when replacing a cartridge. true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00If you think you need a filter, buy one. You will not be disappointed.

Pros
  • EASY TO REPLACE: The Sanitary Quick Change System (SQC) design allows for quick and easy replacement of the 3M Aqua-Pure AP917HD-S water filter replacement cartridge without contacting the filter media or using a filter wrench.
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
