The packaging of all the RIT products I have purchased was great. I bought several bottles of RIT dye and fixative from Revain and my local grocery store. I've never spilled a bottle. The discontinuation of such a product would make me very angry. This camel color is actually the lighter of the dyes I ordered and used. In terms of ease of use, the directions suggest using salt with dye to hold the color better (I guess I can't remember the arguments for salt right now). Whatever the reasoning, I settled on salt. This meant I had to dissolve the salt, and even with my VERY hot tap water, it took a while. For those of you who want to paint something big that would have to be done in a washing machine, I have some tips. I have an Amana HE front loader. When I first tried using my washing machine to dye, I was afraid that the plastic parts would take on the color of the paint. I'm talking about the detergent tub, the pouring area from there into the washing machine and the plastic wands in the washing machine drum. But in the end, I decided no one would ever see it but me, and I chose to do it. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that NO plastic or rubber will absorb paint! Second, when I recently dyed a set of coral leaves a deep burgundy, I used three bottles of dye and the recommended salt. I wanted to be able to add all the paint and salt to the car very quickly without staining. I have a very large stainless steel bowl in which I add the paint and salt to very hot water to dissolve the salt. While dissolving the salt, I quickly washed the sheets so they were already wet. When the wash was over, I opened the door, shoved all of the fabric into the back of the washing machine, and quickly dumped the dye and salt onto the bottom of the machine. I then set the machine to start on a long cycle with HOT water. The color of the bedspread I dyed with this camel hair color turned out very nice. I have to say that the color of the colored product is very close to the color on the label on the bottle. I haven't had to wash the bedspread yet so not sure how durable it will be but the color was spot on and apart from dissolving the salt the process was pretty easy.
