This is the strangest product I have ever bought from Sony; they are usually very ergonomic. There is a U-shaped cable connecting the left earbud to the right. Then comes the cable that connects the right earbud to the battery/control box. Because of this, the cables get tangled very easily. Also, the length of the cable between the headphones and the battery/controller is very long, causing it to hang too low, making it difficult to handle. Then the cable between the battery/control box and the connection plug is too short. The noise canceling feature works and I find it reduces unwanted noise by over 50%. However, when this feature is on, the benefit is negated by the loss of clarity and bass; the resulting sound is smoothed. I also have Sony MDR-NC40s which work better with noise canceling on, but the downside is their size. An alternative would be noise-cancelling headphones, like the ones from Shure, which I also have and are about to replace with the Sony MDRNC33. I'll limit myself to Sony headphones only for on-plane use, where they really have an edge over Shure headphones.
