Some dogs respond well to a firm statement or even a light tap on the nose. Our people see it as an invitation to play harder. He thinks it's a fun game that involves staying away from shoes. He'll freak out if you put him in the playpen and leave the room. Some see you as cruel for "electrocuting" your beloved pet. It has a power level setting from 00 to 99. Before trying it on our dog, we all tried it on bare hands at level 05. It sends a static charge from your forearm to your fingers. My wife and I instinctively withdrew. My 4 year old daughter was dying to try it too. Now you might think that we are bad parents, but after experiencing it for ourselves, none of us saw anything evil in it. We put it on her forearm and pressed the big orange button. To our amazement she just sat there and laughed and said "It tickles!". Then we put it on the dog and he didn't even feel it at level 05. We slowly increased it and finally around 15 he felt something. Not much, but it caught his attention. I have no idea what it will do on 99 and I don't even want to try. We never had to be older than 25 years. He's changed now, at least if he's wearing a collar. Most of the time, he calms himself down by simply putting it around his neck. I strongly recommend not listening to the naysayers who defy all forms of punishment and get this collar! We're using the vibration as a warning that he'll get a shock if he continues. The beep is a good signal and tells him to come to us. The quality seems good to me although we haven't tried it in the water yet. The only minor issue I noticed is that the numbers jump around a bit when setting the intensity level. It's not that big of a problem, but it does slow down the setup process.
