It worked right away. I use it with both an Ubuntu laptop and a Raspberry Pi. No drivers required. It is a HID (Human Interface Device) and behaves like a keyboard, sending an identification code read from a card or key fob as a keystroke. My only (minor) complaint is that they offer a 14H format, which should give you something like 00000013579acf even if only reading some of the ID digits. The device I received has a configuration box below (in Chinese characters) that is not 8H and is marked. However, it is not returned in 14H format but in 8H format. To use the example above: 13579acf For the money it's probably just one thing, but the 14H option is a $1 waste.
