It is too small but strong. Unfortunately no stainless steel. Stainless steel is not magnetic. Also, this item is so small that it can be used for a single potato rather than a family portion. Having said all that I decided to keep it, basically I was tired of ordering and returning potato mashers because none of them were stainless steel (as advertised). I have a good old potato masher, but it's wacky, it doesn't knead well enough. I will use this new addition to finish the work.
