I bought an Xbox 360 controller to use in my 64-bit Vista SP-2 environment. I decided to buy a less expensive controller that was "designed" for the Xbox 360 instead of the ones sold for Windows. I also didn't want to use wireless because I've heard of numerous issues with wireless interfering with other wireless devices and because it drains batteries. So if you can live with a long cable on your desk, use a wired controller. The controller worked out of the box with 32-bit Vista and 64-bit SP2. I didn't need to install the Microsoft software but chose to do so later. I had no problems with the controller when playing Devil May Cry 4. The analog sticks didn't move on their own and the vibration/rumble works as advertised. more used to the DualShock PS1/PS2 controller. This controller made a little more sense in terms of stick placement. The Xbox controller still has the same number of buttons, but the left stick has moved to the top-left corner. Many combos in DMC4 required me to hold down the RB and Y buttons, which caused my fingers to cramp slightly. The alternative was to use my keyboard, and that would have been an accomplishment in itself. Overall, the Xbox 360 controller is a great PC gaming interface, but if the DualShock3 on PC had better support and was half the price, I'd have to try the DS3 controller.
