I had a weak suction cup magnetic holder (from a well known brand) that was able to stick to a smooth spot on the dashboard of my Odyssey van. However, there was no spot for my CR-V where it could get good traction without locking up something else. Every now and then the thing fell off. I wanted to use the Qi wireless charging function, which is not compatible with the metal plate back, which is needed to attach the magnet; So I received this product. It adheres perfectly to ANY SURFACE on the dashboard (and of course the windshield). The suction cup has a very soft and semi-liquid coating that fills small gaps in textured surfaces if you press firmly and evenly before snapping the suction cup clip. To be honest I don't know how much extra help the suction cup has because it's STICKY. I thought it would make a mess if I removed it to move it, but while it was a bit difficult to deal with, it didn't leave a mess! It's great to have the freedom to position the phone exactly where I want it, not where the mount "fits"!
