What you weren't told was how to make sure you flush new filters before installing them. Failure to do this will result in all of the coal dust entering the system, making the filter less effective and significantly slowing the flow of water through the system. When you get a new carbon filter, disconnect the line from the first line of defense, the diesel particulate filter. Look at the new filter and look for an arrow showing the direction of the water. Connect the line from the faucet to the inlet side of the new carbon filter. Point the outlet of this filter into a sink and turn on the water for at least a minute. You'll see why as soon as you turn on the water, what comes out is black. Run until the water runs clear, maybe at least a gallon. Then plug everything in and you're good to go.
