I had the opportunity to test both the aluminum Sabrent tripod and this carbon fiber model. Both are ok but not the best even for the price. Firstly, the tripod comes in a nice carry case with an inside pocket for the included adjustment tools. Unfortunately, the user manual is missing, although it contains no actual instructions apart from pictures of the components. The tripod extends as it should and the center column is secure when tightened. If desired, it can also be removed and turned around. The legs have soft ground lugs that open when the bottom caps are unscrewed. The description on both the promotional page and the brochure mentions that one leg can be used as a monopod. I do NOT think this is correct, although there is foam on one leg. The Sabrent Aluminum Tripod has a leg that unscrews from the tripod, allowing you to leg-mount the ball head on this tripod for use as a monopod. The leg of the carbon fiber model does NOT unscrew. So if I'm not missing anything, I believe this is misinformation from the company. Another issue is the ball head tightening knobs. There are TWO handles on the head that do pretty much the same thing. One is larger than the other, but both pull or loosen the adjustment ball in the same way. Strange! The rotation function is smooth and the pan reference marks are engraved on the base of the ball head. The ball head itself is decent and should fit most standard sized DSLRs or smaller. However I would NOT mount my Canon 1DX on the mount as it is a heavy and VERY expensive camera and the ball head is clearly not designed to take such a load. The ball head mount with quick release works without any problems. In terms of stability, the stability of the tripod when fully extended is average. The spikes provide stability on the ground, and additional hanging weight can be attached to a hook at the bottom of the B-pillar. Overall this is a decent but not the best carbon fiber tripod that will suffice for most amateur photographers needs. . The price is reasonable for the combination of design and ball head. In my opinion, that's clearly four stars, not five.
