Review on Sony XB950B1 Extra Bass Wireless Headphones with App Control in Blue by Robert Helstrom

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Like everything except auxiliary cable

I'll start with the positives. These headphones are wonderful. The red hue is fiery and eye-catching. The hue seems to change depending on the light, which is pretty cool. They are very, very comfortable. I don't feel like they will take weeks to break like other headphones I've had. The sound quality is incredible. I've been dealing with "gamer headsets" for years, which sounded below average, especially in the bass range. They immediately blew all gaming headsets out of the water (except for one, which I won't talk about; it's unavailable and there's no support for the current OS). Use them with a non-bluetooth device (like my 2DSXL). For me personally, this was the main selling point. I like the option to be wireless or wired. The wired connection does not require electricity. Now for the cons, which are the only reason I'm giving 4 stars out of 5. - A regular 3.5mm male to male auxiliary cable will not work with them. The headphone jack of the headphones is embedded in the ear cup. The accessory cable that comes with these headphones has a thin tip on one end that allows you to insert the connector into the recessed port on the headphones. Unless you have an accessory cable with a fine tip that is exactly the same size as the recessed port (or smaller), you will not be able to use a cable with it. Only one end of the auxiliary cable has that thin nose that allows it to be inserted into the slot. into the recessed connector on the headphones. What's the ending you ask? straight end The angled end is what you connect to your device. Say hello to the tension of the wires through the angled connector that connects to the device in your pocket. Auxiliary cable is dangerously short. You won't plug them into a computer whose audio jack is more than 3 feet away unless you can find an accessory cable with a fine tip that will allow you to plug it into these headphones. It's like owning an auxiliary cable really grinds my gears. For that reason alone I only want to give it 3 stars. I like everything about these headphones except the cable situation. In the attached photos, the first one (indicating the jack will not fit the headphones) is trying to use the extra cable that comes with a pair of Phillips open-back headphones. I got last year. The second shot is with the cable that came with these headphones; The jack is not fully inserted so you can see a thinner protrusion at the base of the 3.5mm jack.

Pros
  • Enjoy wide frequency response
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than others
