I started buying Maui Jim sunglasses when the quality of Ray-Ban dropped after Bausch & Lomb sold them to an Italian fashion brand. I like this Sugar Beach product for two main reasons: optically, it's great for bright or cloudy conditions, and the combination of tinting and polarization increases contrast, especially in the distance. And they are vanishingly light, so they stay in place and are almost invisible. I sometimes forget that they are on me. The lenses are polycarbonate, but I've never had any problems with scratches, despite a few drops on asphalt. So why not five stars? Part of the lightness is the thin plastic bezels, which get tired and can break; Because of this, this is my second pair. Another thing to keep in mind is that polarization isn't for everyone and it's not for every situation. Some LCD displays or gauges (airplane cockpit displays, fuel pump readings) appear opaque when viewed from the wrong angle; I can read my phone when holding it in portrait mode but not in landscape mode. If that seems too much of a problem for you, non-polarized sunglasses are for you.
