Our dog run used to have a tree to shade it, but the tree was cut down because it had died. This made the area incredibly harsh and glaring and hotter than ever! We put up the shade cloth to shade the area where the tree used to. It casts a good dark shade and cutting the ultraviolet radiation by 95% will be more healthful. The fabric is much darker color than I thought it would be, but brown is lighter than black. The ends don't fray, and 50ft was enough to make 2 shades for us. I think we'll plant a new shrub in time, which will need shade itself when a sapling. Meanwhile, we are happy to have good shade in the western sun, which is hotter than noon, and lasts from 2pm to sundown.
