Much of any router with a firewall is dependent on the owning company updating the software to protect against hackers and security breaches. TP-Link has not done or offered a firmware update since I bought this device 18 months ago. I'm surprised it's rated so highly because it's a terrible device security wise. I wish I could make this top comment so everyone knows they are buying a serious problem. Tech support was terrible too. A call to ask if they ever plan to update the firmware was answered by dead air at 2:30am (but I stayed on the line) then someone finally said "hello". They took all my contact information and then said they couldn't help me with this model. At 6:00 am I was (probably) transferred to the second level of care. They again took all my contact information and then said they couldn't help me with this model. Now for the third level (presumably) which said it was midnight so the engineers didn't wake up to answer the question (I called at 11:00am PST). All of this made me very disappointed and very angry. This router was supposed to be the cornerstone of my home network, but it turned out to be a POS.
