Unlike my previous instant read thermometer, this one doesn't have an auto shut off feature when not in use. If you don't close the dipstick, the battery will run out very quickly. Other than that, it seems to work well, but the features aren't very intuitive and the instructions are too complicated to remember unless you use them a lot.
