See Five Star Reviews for my previous review. I was very ill last year, my doctor and I are over 90% sure I was a false negative. I have an ear thermometer with bran, unfortunately the person who followed me to the store couldn't find it in any store. Luckily, not only did I find 200 packs of regular thermometers to match this fast-selling thermometer, but I also had to spend over $35 shipping to Walmart and buy multiple packs of 40 that came with two separate packs of 20 were delivered. Quality defects are quite common. unfortunately all the time. Can't speak to the complaints I've seen about the battery terminals, usually the negative end where the spring is disconnected or completely off. I'm not saying it won't happen again but I think for many of the claims there is a small percentage of other companies trying to discredit this company. You have the percentage of people who caused an operation error using the surface temperature mode versus the mode used to read the person's temperature. Is there a percentage of people who have received absolutely faulty products but understand such consumer electronics, unfortunately the first two examples I gave have a higher percentage. 13 months later it still works, I boiled some water and switched to surface temperature mode. I used a cooking thermometer, which relies on a coil and needle, to indicate the temperature of the water. Being in the correct mode for surface temperature with this device gave the same readings with no difference even at 0.1°F and very fast I might add. In any case, I'm happy with my purchase, which cost almost $22 at the time, and has since paid for itself quite a bit. Yes AA batteries are consumables but trust me they are a lot cheaper and less of a headache compared to the cost and hassle of finding probe housings.
