My cake likes to dig into the substrate! I've bought this several times but the last time there were springtails in the substrate because it was wetter when I opened it. I went on reddit thinking it was mites but they were identified as springtails and didn't harm my turtle. They actually eat decaying things like leftover food and turtle droppings. I usually clean up leftover food, so springtails only reproduce from moisture and feces. At first I was outraged, but honestly everything is fine. They don't fly, are tiny and don't bother my turtle. Hopefully the next bag I buy won't have them.
