I bought this drive to store old family photos and items from my PC and to free up disk space. It worked fine for two weeks as I put almost 2TB on the drive. One day everything was working fine and the same day it suddenly stopped working. It has not been dropped or bumped in any way. It just doesn't show up on the computer like it used to in E. I ran all the WD error checkers, spoke to tech support, and bought a new cable. I've gone through all the troubleshooting steps and no luck. It shows up on devices and says it's working properly, but I can't access files. It makes a low hum and stops completely after a few minutes. The SMART test showed it failed indicating a fatal hardware failure. I've spent hours trying to fix the problem and get my files back to no avail. This seems to be a very common problem with these large drives, but Western Digital does not address or fix it. I've had previous WD drives with no problems, but a lot of people seem to have these problems now and almost immediately after purchase. I could send the drive back to Revain, but now it contains all my personal data and photos, some of which I can't get back because I deleted them from my computer to save space. That's why I wanted to drive in the first place! I am deeply disappointed and will never buy a WD product again. Now it's garbage!
