Review on TP-Link AC750 WiFi Extender (RE220): Boost Your WiFi Signal and Expand Coverage to 1200 Sq.ft - Dual Band, 750Mbps Speed, Supports 20 Devices by Michael Jennings

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Exactly what I needed and works surprisingly well at a great price

So far the TP-Link AC750 RE220 Dual Band WiFi Extender (2019 Release) has worked great and fully met my needs. visually appealing so you don't have to worry about hiding a bulky or ugly device. In fact, it's similar to an oil diffuser that many of us can have. It's very light, so it shouldn't sag in the outlet when plugged in. You lose the plug and if that's a problem you can always use an extension cord and place it anywhere. On the front of the RE220 there are 5 clear LEDs that inform you of its status (power, Ethernet, WiFi, 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands) and a WPS button. At the bottom of the device is a high-speed RJ45 Ethernet port (ideal for wired devices) and a reset button, so you don't have to worry about pressing it accidentally and make sure you really mean business , if you use this function. . It should work with any wireless router. The mobile app and web UI also give you control options like turning on high-speed mode, restricting certain devices to certain times, and even turning off LEDs if they might disturb your sleep or distract you. I haven't personally used the extra features, but they seem pretty useful, especially the ability to turn off the LEDs. I think everyone has noticed blinking lights from various devices and they can be very annoying if they are in your bedroom or visible when you are trying to concentrate. The RE220 was very easy to set up with step-by-step instructions. In-box instructions that guide you through the process and inform you of your setup options (WPS, mobile app, web interface), the location of the app, the QR code for the app (this is also printed on the box), and the web interface address , which you need to set up if you want to use a computer instead of the WPS application or feature. I chose the application which is also very simple which made the process even more enjoyable. All you have to do is follow the on-screen instructions and everything will go smoothly. In it, you set up the 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi bands separately, as each has a password, although it's usually the same, and it's also true that not all networks are dual-band. I had no problems with the installation. It was quick and painless. The only problem with the setup I had was mine. In a rush to get the RE220 up and running, I didn't rename the extender's WiFi signal to match my home network, causing conflicts with my IoT devices trying to talk to each other as the network is password protected and I actually created a second password protected network. This caused some communication problems. The instructions even say you might want/need to do this, but I was in a hurry to do other things and missed it. After renaming the signal and setting the password to match the original network, everything worked great with no issues. This was very easy on the mobile app, but could also be easily done on a laptop or desktop computer. I bought it to fix an issue with a device I had a big discount on. I came across a used Sony Media Streaming Bluray player for $15. I couldn't believe it and couldn't walk past. I didn't really need it, but I was tired of using my phone or laptop to stream movies and videos to my bedroom TV. This has always been a problem and the only alternative was a cable connection straight to the TV and that in itself was a problem especially when I wanted to play one of the discs I have as my laptop doesn't have a built in disc player and I do need to connect a USB BR/DVD/CD player. The problem was that the player required a wired network connection, not a wireless one. Can't complain as it was practically free. I don't know about you, but I don't have wired internet at home. I could do it myself, but it's time consuming and the money involved negates the value of my purchase. In fact, it would probably exceed the cost of a brand new media player and I didn't want to make such an investment just to get the media player on the web. My TV is a few years old and doesn't have Wi-Fi or smart apps, and I'm not willing to shell out a few hundred bucks just to have that kind of experience. Not when I can handle it for a lot less. This network extender allowed me to connect my Blu-ray player to the network using a spare network cable lying around from an old printer, or maybe it was an outdated gateway from an old ISP. Regardless, the cable was brand new in the box and all I had to do was plug it into a TP-Link RE220 extension cable and my Bluray and BAM player was online and prompting me to install updates. To top it off, the wifi signal in my bedroom is much stronger and anything using RE220 signals has a much more reliable signal. That's not to say my Arris Gateway didn't give me a good signal initially, it just got stronger. The speed of the TP-Link RE220 AC750 Wi-Fi Extender is great for watching HD Prime videos. I can do full 1080p just fine. There's always a loading lag, but I think this is a player that's a few years old, so the memory and processor speed aren't up to par, but it was $15, so again I'm not complaining. If you're planning on watching 4k Ultra videos, you might want to do a little research to see if the TP-Link RE220 AC750 WiFi Extender meets your needs in terms of speed, but it's said to deliver 433MB/s for the 5- GHz band and 300 MB/s for the 2.4 GHz band. That should be fast enough, but it's definitely not gigabit speed. Since I don't have a gigabit router, that's not a problem. My TV doesn't support 4k Ultra so I wasn't worried about that. I noticed that when watching a movie with the Revain Prime app on the player, it checks the connection speed and shows the result. This is exactly what I'm seeing on my Samsung Galaxy S9+ over home WiFi, so the RE220 doesn't seem to be any slower than the Arris Gateway my network is running on, and the only speed issues I've ever seen is when there are too many devices using too much bandwidth at the same time (multiple HDTVs, cell phones, laptops, remote set-top boxes, etc.) d.). First world problems. me right? The only solution is a faster internet connection and router which is not needed and saves money and even if I upgraded I think this WiFi extender would still suit my needs.
