I bought this garbage fan to ventilate the battery compartment which holds 4 deep cycle batteries for my fountain. The battery compartment is outside under the panels but gets hot in the summer. When charging batteries, hydrogen gas is released with a strong smell of sulfur. I positioned the fan to pull fresh air into the box with a vent at the other end to vent the gases. I connected it to a small solar panel designed to keep car batteries charged. When the sun rises, the fan turns on automatically. It's outside so I can't hear it but when I go to have the batteries serviced I have to check if it's working because it's so quiet. I insulated the battery bay with 2" foam to allow the fan to fit snugly in the cutout without sticking out. This small fan is for ventilation rather than cooling. Mine is designed to pull in air rather than pull out gases, so if there is one If there are sparks it will most likely not cause any harm This is a brushless fan so the chance of sparking is very low but as it is not intended for use in hazardous areas such as mines and mills I have decided to use the fan this way For the performance and the price I would buy it again.
