Mold growing in orchid pot

I bought this to use my orchid flower stems for support. But a few days after I put it in the pot, mold grew on the stick, I tried it twice and both times the mold appeared. So they are useless to me now. FYI, I have fresh orchid bark for potting medium. They might be good for something else, but not orchids (especially if you're using a bark medium). I haven't tried them with other media types.
