Review on πŸ’Ύ iDsonix Tool-Free 3.5" Internal HDD Mounting Bracket Rack Frame - Black, with Easy Extraction Design by Emily Myers

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I ordered two, one is broken, the second works.

This review refers to"iDsonix 3.5" Internal Toolless Hard Drive Mounting Bracket Rack with pull out design"I ordered two of these removable drive bays to add pure SATA hard drives to the Back up to use my system, and one of the two mounting screws was missing and the door popped out of the hinge point when the drive was removed (which required little effort. The second unit had the hardware and it works fine! - It has a power switch, that is good as you can power off and rewind the drive before removing it as ejecting the disc is not a very smooth operation (which is probably the case with most of these items) is flush with the body and needs to be pressed slightly, to turn the drive on or off (similar to the "reset" switch on a CPU), so it's almost impossible to turn off the drive accidentally, which is good and a mistake Complete shutdown prevented when accessed - When the blue LED on the front of the device is on and fairly bright - When the drive is accessed, the RED LED is on. However, the blue LED will also light up, so looks a little quirky and appears purple, which I don't really care about, just a little weird. If you plan on changing drives daily or multiple times a day, this might not last long (that's good, but not for industrial quality). One last note, if you're having trouble with HOT-swap drives (without rebooting your computer), check your system's BIOS settings. because every SATA channel you plug this thing into has to be set to HOT-SWAP. I'm running Windows 10 with an ASUS Prime B-350 Plus motherboard and by default all SATA channels are HOT-SWAP disabled. So if I don't reboot into Windows after replacing the drives in the bay, it won't detect until I enable HOT-SWAP. SWAP ON for this channel in BIOS until I changed this setting. All said and done, I returned the defective shaft for a replacement rather than a refund, so yes I recommend this product.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
