I got it for a new armchair I purchased, to hold my laptop and if needed a snack plate or drink. It works quite well for all those purposes, though I did improve it by gluing a piece of silicone to the top to make it more rubbery and so less slippery. It comes with a rubber-like pad, but the pad is fitted flush within a hard frame, and my things tended to slide off the hard frame part if they were bigger than the inset pad, and laptops and plates are bigger than that pad. Now, I can work or eat at a slight angle with no mishaps. It is surprisingly stable- I was afraid it would slip off the arm all the time. It doesn't because the felt-like back gives it good purchase against the chair upholstery, yet it is easily moved back and forth or off, and folds up when off to a tidy size. It makes my chair a truly useful workstation.
