THE BEST way to get into quadcopters

I confess I ordered this thing on a whim. I heard about quadcopters and thought they were pretty cool and I saw this one for $50 and thought why not. If I fly it once and it breaks or isn't very cool, I haven't lost a lot of money on it. But I have it and it's the best. It is very manoeuvrable. It's durable and works well. I've broken it twice and so far I've been able to fix it myself (using a dremel and soldering). The learning curve is a bit steep, but if you're looking to get into quadcopters, then this is the machine. I have no RC experience and got used to this thing pretty quickly. It is clear that at $50 it is made fairly cheaply, but everything works very well. The transmitter looks cheap but works great. The quad seems cheap but works very well. They include replaceable propellers, but I haven't needed them yet despite many, many accidents. The only thing I would do differently would be to provide the motor housings. There is wire running through the levers that is quite brittle and prone to breakage, and the only way to replace it is to cut and glue the motor mount together. It works, but I'd prefer the brackets weren't fused together.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Poorly thought out
