After destroying the toys hanging from the mat, my birds started perching on the mat. Even more so than dogs, birds like to chew, and few talk about it: a bird (particularly parrots) MUST see the consequences of its destruction. That means giving them anything that can't break, especially plastic toys, is utterly useless. The bird loses interest in ANYTHING it can't see as a result of damage, so I never buy anything it can't destroy over time. The problem then is to buy the RIGHT bird sized toy because if you buy one that is too small and flimsy the bird can destroy it within a few hours. Bird toys don't come cheap, and you want one that will last as long as possible while also keeping your birds interested. My little parrot can work on this toy for weeks or even longer.
