Review on Philips Beauty Epilator Series 8000 - 5-in-1 Shaver, Trimmer, Pedicure, and Body Exfoliator with 9 Accessories - BRE740/14 by Robin Greco

The epilator does not have enough power or tweezers to remove leg hair.

I've been using Emjoi AP-18 Emagine Dual Opposed 72 Tweezer Heads / Emjoi AP-18R Emagine Dual Opposed 72 Purple Tweezer Heads for a few years and I really like them. Since I only epilate my legs (no longer shave), I was dying to try this new Philips Santinelle Prestige epilator. Unfortunately, there is absolutely no comparison between the two epilators. Emjoi sits head and shoulders over the Philips Satininelle Prestige. And since the Philips Santinelle Prestige doesn't work well as an epilator, there are actually no additional benefits. In fact, all of that extra investment really isn't even necessary. I would prefer an epilator that does its job well. So what makes Emjoi better? 1. It removes more hair, faster.2. It has MUCH more power.3. It has MUCH more tweezers (72 tweezers).4. It can remove very short hair (which this one can't).5. The tweezers are made of metal, not plastic.6. It's easy to hold.7. It costs less, currently $74.95. The only thing Emjoi doesn't have but Philips Satinelle does have is a spot light to help you see missing hairs. For those who have never epilated before, the first time or two will take a long time. Time . MUCH longer than shaving. You have to go over the same spots multiple times to remove all the hair. And since hair grows at different rates, you will have to epilate more often at first. Here are some additional tips to help you epilate smoothly (no pun intended).1. NEVER use the epilator on wet skin or in the shower. Easier and faster to remove hair from dry skin.2. Epilate before showering or bathing. Again, it is easier and quicker to remove hair from dry skin than from wet skin.3. Let your hair grow to the point where wearing shorts with leg hair that long is unacceptable. While removing longer hair is a little more painful, it's easier and quicker.4. Take Advil or Tylenol before waxing if this is your first experience. If it gets too painful, don't do it all at once. Do something in the morning and something in the evening or the next day. If you split it up, I recommend doing the shins (shinbones and/or calves) of both legs first. The thighs (thighs) are slightly more tender/painful when hair is removed.5. After you have finished epilating, take a shower and apply Olay Shower Gel to the scrubbing/exfoliating pad. Apply moisturizer to your skin after you get out of the shower. Don't epilate the night before or the same day you want your legs to look their best. Hair pulling leaves LOTS of red marks on legs (like being attacked with an ice pick). And depending on your skin type, it can look VERY bad. I personally find it best to start epilating in autumn/winter. If you are planning to start in spring/summer then just plan accordingly.7. Do this several times before deciding epilation isn't for you. And yes, the epilator you use makes ALL the difference.

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Expensive insurance
