In winter I enjoy warm lather while shaving. After researching various options to achieve this goal, I narrowed the choice down to a bucket or coffee cup warmer. Went with a heated mug as I already had an Apothecary porcelain mug. The Home-X Warmer maintains the warmth of the foam throughout the "two-pass plus touch-up" shave. WARNING!: The bottom of the mug gets very hot (I learned that first hand!) and you should only lift it by the handle! When using a drugstore cup, you typically hold the "handle" between your thumb and forefinger and support the cup with your palm. Of course, that's not possible with this heating pad!, so you can use a mug with a regular loop handle instead. I can use my cup (see photos) without any problems. I fill a mug with hot tap water, set it on the heater, and dip my brush and razor in it while I shower. In colder weather, you can give five or ten minutes a warmer start. After a shower I empty the mug, add lather and place it back on the heating pad and I'm ready to shave with nice, warm lather. I dip the tip of the brush in hot water and swirl the lather before each pass to keep it nice and hydrated. I'm perfectly happy with this set which works for me although I'm sure it won't be for everyone (ymmv). Because there are many variables such as shaving cream, brush type, etc., no one system fits all. I hope this helps those of you who may have been curious or considered using this for the same purpose.
