I have been sculpting with various refractory clays for many years. I found myself too frail to hoist it all in and out of my oven. I just had to give up. Knowing nothing about Sculpey, I said so on the internet and bought it on a whim. I was amazed at the ease of use. Next thing I know I'm buying back clay tools, reading books and watching YouTube videos. So funny! It is a pleasure to work with this clay. It accepts small details, it is easy to paint, after firing it hardens like a stone; he is persistent and forgiving. It's clean too. I get on my knees with him, watch TV and carve him on a tray. Don't get me wrong, I didn't make masterpieces, but I did make perfectly acceptable small heads and bodies. As an absolute newbie with this putty, I am completely satisfied.
