Consider them very disposable.
The design is a loosely wound, flattened sphere of thin, spiraling stainless steel band. They clean reasonably well but the balls/pads/plugs have no real texture and fall apart with use. I found I had to constantly stack them while using them to keep them from falling apart. And food stuffs get stuck in the wool and it's difficult to wash.
