NOT BEESWAX!

Warning, this is definitely NOT beeswax. Buy at your own risk! I've been making hand ointments/creams and oils for cutting boards and wooden utensils for many years, so I've tried many different brands of beeswax. Thought I'd give this Beesworks a try as it has over 4000 positive reviews and is only $10. I definitely got what I paid for. I don't know what these things are made of or why they have such good reviews. I don't normally write reviews as this is e-commerce and I only return defective items. However, I feel that this particular item poses a health hazard. First, it will mold. Beeswax is known to have antibacterial and antifungal properties. Mold must not develop! I made several batches of hand ointments and used a different brand of beeswax but ran out halfway through so I poured some Beesworks pellets into the same oil blend thinking it would be ok. It was not good. The wax took a long time to melt. After it melted, I stirred the mixture very well and poured it into the molds with a syringe. Usually the ointments I make cool and thicken in half an hour or less. As I was about to close the Beesworks wax jars, I noticed that the oils and beeswax had separated leaving only a thin layer of wax on top. That should not have happened. I think what happened was that the oil mixture and the so called beeswax separated right after mixing and while still in the pot! So when I dipped the syringe I skipped the top layer of wax so I ended up with mostly oil. As you can see in the picture the wax just sat on top of the oils. The worst thing was that I discovered the mix. actually moldy after a few days! There was about two cups of oil and wax mixture left, but I was running out of jars, so I decided to just let it thicken and heat it after I got more jars. Well after about 5 days I went to make more ointments and saw that the contents had formed mold and the wax and oils had completely separated. The wax just thickens on top of the oil! What the hell?! Too bad I didn't take a picture before throwing it away. I had 3/4 Beesworks pellets left so I opened it up to see what happened. OMG it smelled musty and moldy and plastic. I made the mistake of sticking my nose in to inhale. I wanted to throw up. In earnest. As you can see in the photo, the real deal is the huge 5lb block of beeswax I have. It is made in the USA from beeswax. It smells like honey, a pleasantly soothing aroma. It costs significantly more per pound, but it's worth it. I make board waxes and oils mostly for family and friends so I want to use the best. The cost I've paid for quality products is worth the reassurance that I'm using genuine, natural ingredients. In any case, thanks for reading! Hope that helps!

I don’t trust reviews anymore.
