Avoid white for anything that can scratch - rougher texture!

Note: I have had problems cleaning lenses and LCD screens for years. I've tried so many lens solutions and for some reason the film always comes out after a few minutes. Earlier this year, I was approached by a roommate who was amazed at how well the lens wipes work here, saying you don't even have to use a lens cleaner for them to work. This prompted me to experiment with my lens fabric collection. It turns out that liquid should NOT be used in most cases. The rags themselves absorb all the oils and dirt. I have a monkey who occasionally squirts on my expensive monitor (insists on sitting in front of it while I try to see it lol). Sometimes you need something to break up the particles, in this case I put distilled water on the lens cloth and it works every time. But usually I don't need liquid. I've bought LOTS of reading glasses that came with lens tissue from the .99 cent store and Dollar Tree and they've always been incredibly soft. I also bought a lens cleaner which came with the same quality wipes. They were always so smooth that you couldn't feel any texture when you ran your finger over them. They also have a kind of shine. Back to this: These things are MUCH bigger than I thought they would be. So that's a plus as you can cut them into squares and have a lot more napkins for the future. Now to the downside: As soon as I looked at the packaging of white towels, I noticed that something was wrong. I opened the bag and felt the fabric, and sure enough, it was almost as rough as a washcloth, only thicker. I felt every panel of fabric. I just tossed one in the wash to see if it gets softer or smoother and yes you can work lens fabrics but don't put them in the dryer which can melt and shrink the split fibers. The texture hasn't softened, so they are what they are. Grays are MUCH smoother and softer. They also have that shine that whites seem to lack. The grays still don't feel as delicate as the wipes I buy from dollar stores (or from my optician), but at least you don't risk scratching the LCD screen like you do with whites. Therefore, do not use white surfaces if you are dealing with sensitive surfaces.
