so they are like hard felt material. The oil smells GREAT. I was a little upset because the oil was all over the bag but the bottle was sealed so I don't know how it happened. However, it smells very nice and the smell seems to be persistent. I smeared a few drops of oil on each ball two or three weeks ago and hung them on my rearview mirror and the smell is still great. It's not an overwhelming scent (unless the oil soaks the sachet! Then yes, it will be overwhelming). Will definitely buy it again. As for the smell, I don't know how to describe it. However, it is a warm, soothing fruity-floral scent.
