When I switched from using a mouse, it didn't take long for my long-term behaviors to change. My preference was for Logitech mice with a scroll wheel that could move at a faster rate, thus it raised some questions about whether or not the trackball even had a wheel. I immediately discovered that it is simply unnecessary when there is an entire "scroll ball" instead of a "scroll wheel," as this is the case. We then scroll in whichever direction we like by pressing the button. On this model, the ball does not have a great deal of inertia, despite the fact that it is quite heavy; however, this does not result in any inconvenience. With its assistance, scrolling pages in the editor or scrolling the graphics view in various directions is convenient for me. Because I only use the device with Linux, I did not experience any issues with the drivers or the button programming. However, for users of other operating systems, it is important to first clarify what software is available and what key remapping capabilities are supported. After conducting a number of tests with the various keys in Linux, I decided to reset the scrolling to the left large key. This key is pressed with the thumb, and because it has such a natural motion, it does not restrict the use of any of the other fingers. Instead, the index and middle fingers are used to scroll. The same key can be used to do a right click with just a brief hold of it. In this instance, the left click is located on the right huge key, and I hit it using the key that does not have a name, also known as the middle key. At first, switching between the right and left buttons is mentally taxing, but after a while, it just becomes second nature. The typical mouse click is determined by the size of the button. Strangely, but after almost a whole year of using it, I've found that this layout provides the greatest ease of usage for my hand. My perspective is that the trackball is a tool for work, and in my position as a programmer, I find that using it is incredibly convenient. When it comes to gaming, I still prefer to use a mouse. I would suggest getting one of these if you spend a lot of time at the computer.
