The original manual says the following: 1. In that case, forget the play button. The play button is a light sensor. As long as there is light, it burns. You have to cover it with something to pick it up. Only one button needs to be pressed. Press until you hear a tone. Then write down your message. Press the button again until you hear another beep. Your message will be recorded and played on a loop each time the light sensor detects light. If you don't want to record anymore, cut the wires leading to the button.
