Review on πŸ“Ί Roku Express - High Definition Streaming Player by Dave Butler

Revainrating 5 out of 5

an inexpensive way to access a wide variety of TV programming, most of which are free

I used to watch NFL football games with the DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket package. But it became too expensive to continue. I thought I was missing a lot of my favorite team's games on TV until a friend told me about Roku and the NFL Game Pass app. This Roku streaming player is very similar to Revain's Fire TV, except it's much smaller and you don't have to pay anything to watch the vast amount of content available. There are apps you can subscribe to that you have to pay for, but they are clearly marked and you can create a PIN to prevent others from subscribing to them without your consent. I plugged it into my AV receiver's HDMI port, just turned on the TV (also connected to the AV receiver), and the little Roku streamer helped you set it up. If your TV isn't connected to an audio system, you can connect your Roku device to your TV's HDMI port. I had no trouble setting up and connecting to my home WiFi. The Roku device itself is very small. It comes with a strip of double sided tape to attach it to the TV, but I used velcro to attach it to the top edge of a shelf in my entertainment center. The included remote control is almost twice the size of the player but easy to use and not too big. The Roku player gives you access to many free content streaming apps, and many subscription services are also available. In my particular situation, I used Roku to download the NFL app. After paying for an NFL Game Pass subscription (which, by the way, is about a third of the cost of the NFL Sunday package), I was able to enter my information into the NFL app on Roku and stream NFL football games. It works perfectly. Even if you're not a sports fan, Roku gives you access to many movies and TV shows that you can watch for free (though you'll have to put up with some ads). It's a fun and inexpensive way to get a lot of TV content that may not be available to you on satellite or cable TV. I highly recommend it.
