Review on 💧 Stant Black Radiator Cap by Chris Owens

Fits perfectly on my 2004 Suzuki XL7. I haven't started the engine or driven the car since I installed it almost a week ago so I don't know how it will work yet. I put the original cover in the box it came from and put it under the car seat, in case of a defect I can go back to the original. The original gasket is worn and cracked, but I've had no problems with it. In the coming weeks I have a 300 mile trip from Broward County, Florida to Volusia County, Florida and a 1,200 mile trip from Florida to New York next month. I'll see how it holds up on those rides and update after each ride. The original thermostat has not been replaced, but I have a Stant thermostat and a Stant thermostat gasket in the car along with my tools. I don't want to change the thermostat unless I have a problem with it. While I haven't had any problems with the radiator cap, the worn gasket was obvious so I replaced it. The cooler is new, so everything is fine. If I have any overheating issues and it's not that new cap, I suspect a water pump or thermostat. I can swap the thermostat myself if I run into problems along the way, but I'll probably just remove the thermostat. (if the car overheats) and drive without it to make sure it's the thermostat and not the water pump before installing a new thermostat. If the car still overheats without a thermostat, I know it's the water pump and I have to tow it to the shop to have the water pump replaced. Hopefully I won't have to deal with it on these long trips, but I'm not very good at preventative maintenance when it comes to replacing wearing parts. I like to follow the old adage "don't fix what ain't broke." That's why I travel with tools and spares. Update 10/16/14: I used a different vehicle for a 300 mile trip that would have been a 600 mile round trip and I canceled the trip to New York. However, the lid still holds in local driving. So far no problems to report. Update December 21, 2014: Rode it 600 miles to Debary, FL and back from Sunrise, FL Friday through yesterday and it has held up with no problems. I ride with a new non-vented spare cap in case it starts to leak on one of my long trips. Two days after Christmas I'll be running the same 600-mile race from Voskhod to Debari, so I'll let you know if he's still up after that. Some people say they get leaks under the base of the lid and under the vent. I worry about this because I do these long trips and need to keep my trip in tip-top shape to avoid problems on the road. So far it's holding up very well and I'm very happy with it. I wonder if people who get leaks have the right caps for their cars. Many of them just drive around town and have serious leakage problems. I'll let you know after Christmas how it's holding up after I complete my next upcoming 600 mile run. Update 12/30/2014: Rode 600 miles round trip between Sunrise, FL and Debary, FL and the cap held up with no issues. . So far, so good. I will let you know if I have any problems in the future.
