I started with the WX1 over a year ago. I found it a great camera to put in your pocket and take with you anywhere, anytime. I love to take photos and always have my camera with me. But I also make a lot of videos. All this in high definition AVCH format. The only downside I found with the WX1 was the lack of AVCH video. When mixing MPEG4 and AVCH, video editing was a bit more difficult. When Sony introduced the WX9, I bought it. To date, despite some negative points written here, this is an excellent camera for video and photography. Still photos are excellent at 16 megapixels. I don't understand the comments on some bad photos. Mine are perfect! In addition to the many manual settings available to the photographer, Advanced Auto Mode offers another option. The flash is a weak point, but let's face it, if you want to capture something that requires a flash and your distance is more than 12 feet, a pocket camera won't help. On the other hand, the low-light capabilities of the WX are excellent even without a tripod. In low-light mode, the camera takes multiple shots and stitches them together into one photo. All of this happens in an instant! The zoom lens only has a 5x magnification. But I'm willing to bet that it will help you at least 80% of the time. Then this is the video! Really great 1080i high definition video. In addition, you get the main benefit of optical image stabilization for smooth and stable videos. Here I have to point out that the system in the WX9 is one of the best among consumer cameras. So if you tend to shake a bit when recording videos, this camera will help you. The only reason I gave cmaera 4 stars instead of 5 is the use of slide switches on the back of the camera and a very small on/off switch on the top of the camera. Sony could have included a standard rotary switch instead of one of the slide switches. It must have been a question of cost and perhaps lack of space. Rotary switches tend to last longer in my opinion. Overall this is still a great camera and you won't be disappointed. It's a great standalone camera or a second camera to take with you when your main camera gets too bulky.
