The button covers I love never had built in hinges. While the loops should make it easier to put the overlays on, there really aren't any. What they do is the need to make much thicker button covers which really detracts from the stylish look. The company that makes them seems to have captured an admittedly small market, which means hingeless thin lids are unlikely to make an appearance again. Too bad. You looked a lot better.
