Adjustable length wreath hanger

I needed a longer hanger to hang my sign on my front door. The manufacturer said it would hold up to 10 pounds and the plate weighed 6.5 so I bought a holder. I even secured it by nailing two pieces of metal to keep it from wobbling. I heard a very loud bang and found that the holder had broken in half and the plaque had fallen off leaving a large dent in the door frame. The plate is also broken in several places. Very disappointed.
