Won't charge in dock

I've had similar devices in the past that charged in the dock and didn't affect the charging area. This one doesn't charge in my dock (you can cut it off so it charges). Seems ok if you don't use the document. The key cut off a large chunk of his back as it seemed to be preventing him from lying exactly where he was supposed to.
